All about 7-PR11SOn

This gentleman at 7-11 was kind enough to allow me to take his photo knowing my hope was to paint it. Been trying to catch him for days now.

An immigrant from India, I first met him at my closest 7-11 right after the new year when he started. He was so energetic and happy.

He works graveyard most nights, and I have seen him attacked, almost robbed at gun point, constantly shoplifted from as he works all night, 6 nights a week, by himself.

I have tried to cheer him up, or offer alternates so many times. I have almost stopped. I am so glad he agreed to this. Not sure the affect, but he was pleased when I showed him the 1st layer.

Took this just as the morning started. Had him print and sign the back.

Laid down water wax. Water soluble pastels, and ket it soak for several hours in the moist wax inbedding the pigment in the coarse pastel paper.

Then I rubbed Munkyo oil Pastels ontop of the wax using a rubber spatula, then lightly scraped it off. Touched up the lines and gently rubbed in some more was to smooth out the scraping lines.

I will wait a couple of hours, finish touching it up, then all done!

I am glad it captured how I have witnessed him withdraw into himself, I left the 1st lines that I you come to as you look at his surroundings edged and well defined. He knows where his “prison” is. Beyond the “bars”, everything becomes a miasma of undefined potential, that fades into the unknown darkness of the future.

He is a smart young man. I dislike watching his spirit melt like slowburning candles. Hmm, perhaps I ought to reconsider telling him all of this? Seems prudent to allow his right to interpret for hu himself.
